Pride Day

People!  All over town!  Downtown!  On public transportation!  In cars!  Wearing shorts that were just too short and tops that were way too small -- men and women -- all in rainbow stripes and all heading to the parade! Carrying signs!  They were expecting a million people on the parade route and at some point or other all of them were in front of my car, either on foot or in another car.  Hooray for pride!  Please start out earlier next time and please stay out of my way.  There is a reason they come on the TV and say, "Please take public transportation."  Because where you gonna put that car when you get there?  Good luck with the towing charges and tickets!

It might have rained past the edge of stage but we sat on a cool dehumidified stage awaiting the musicians who'd share their genius and talent with us.

Catching up

Life is rich!  Life is full!  Today I only have speculation about why longtime couples might have parted and why the partner of the each respective person with whom we were friendly is the one we think was in the right, if there is such a thing in an acrimonious divorce.  I speculated why two of them would part after 50 years of marriage but was reminded of ... A JOKE!! A very elderly couple goes to see a divorce attorney.  "We want to split up," the wife says. "We can't stand each other," says the husband. "How long have you been married?" asks the incredulous attorney. "It's been 67 years," states the wife.  "We've hated each other at least 30 years." "Why did you wait so long?" asks the lawyer. "We were waiting for the children to die."

I remember jokes

A quarter of a century ago, before the internet was everywhere and all the time, before Facebook and Instagram, before emails and Netflix comedy specials, there were jokes told by word of mouth.  We all had special friends with whom we liked to tell jokes as they would pass on good jokes to you.  I loved telling jokes and would listen intently so I could pass the joke along to another and perhaps improve upon it when I did.  There were jokes you could tell a kid but adults could enjoy.  There were current-events-based jokes which today would make you say, "HUH??" and were kind of twisted.  There were filthy jokes and jokes that dropped the eff bomb and surreal jokes and politically incorrect jokes.  The evening of the day we heard about Chernobyl, a friend of mine told me Star Trek jokes that were hilarious and made me feel a lot less scared, jokes which I still haul out and tell, using a particular voice. With the internet and emails came jokes being sen...

Game of Thrones is over for real

The internet blew the fuck up when "Game of Thrones" didn't end the way people wanted it to end.  Bran the Buzzkill is now the king and it ended the way it was supposed to end.  Prior to this season, did you watch the show to NOT have a Blood Wedding?  Were you requesting a seasonal redo when Dany's brother got his gold crown, albeit a molten one?  Did your panties get all in a twist because Jamie Lannister's hand was chopped off?  Did you run your head into a concrete wall because Tyrion killed his dad while his dad was having a poo?  No!  You went with the story!  You didn't know how it was going to play out and it played out and then you complain about it?  Weird stuff went on for eight seasons.  Jon was killed, dead gone dead, and brought back to life.  The Red Woman gave birth to a demon in a cave.  Khaleesi burned all the Dothraki leaders to a solid crisp to get the Dothraki populace to follow her in the most expeditious ...

NO MORE GAME OF THRONES!!!

Tonight it's over.  All the speculation, predictions, and weird ideas will be spawned no more.  Tomorrow at work, the winners of the Pool of Thrones will be announced and I am confident that one of those will not be me.  Either Jon Snow will win or Dany will win or, as someone predicted in one of the too-many articles and opinions I read this past week, Tyrion will be revealed to be the child of the Mad King and his Lannister mom who had a "mad" affair and the result was Tyrion, the knowledge of which is brought to us by Bran on one of his mad, bad trips back through time.  (Dude's a buzzkill, let's agree.  He can't go back in time and see someone telling some really good jokes which he brings to the present and slays a crowd at the Kings Landing Laff Academy?)  And Tyrion makes it a ... democracy!  Or someone altogether unexpected takes over.  Or Sansa and Tyrion fall in love for real and rule together. Last week would have been five minutes lo...
