Denial is not a river in Africa.

I went to the podiatrist who advised that my left foot hurt because I have a bunion.  My foot does not often hurt when I walk on it unless the shoes are ill fitting (i.e. one old pair of winter boots which I've now retired).  Occasionally, yes, but mostly my foot pain wakes me up at night.  She said I should get an orthotic.  They got in touch with my insurance and advised that it would cost me $500.  I've decided to be happily in denial.  I dashed about today in my cute little black booties and my foot did not hurt at all but last night it woke me up to make its presence known.  It was a painful little SOB, too, and when I got out of bed and walked on it, it stopped, just as it always does.  How does a bunion make the arch of your foot hurt when you're not walking on it?  The bunion doesn't hurt, the arch hurts, and I am sleeping, not sleepwalking. A few years ago I had horribly painful corns.  You ever had a corn?  Those motherf...

The week in review

All these fascinating impeachment goings-on!  I was so pissed off during the whole Clinton thing -- dude could not keep it in his pants -- that I didn't pay as much attention as I am now.  It's fascinating, this whole thing.  Delivering the articles of impeachment to the Senate.  Congressional managers -- i.e. the prosecutors -- were selected.  The Senate was sworn in, each as impartial jurors.  Mitch McConnell being impartial?   Lindsay Graham?  Ted Cruz?  Yikes, yikes, yikes.  This means that they have not already decided.  Yikes, yikes, yikes. There are too many managers where I work.  Even the most low-level of them think there are not but that is wishful thinking, looking at it from the sub-basement. "Breaking Bad" is back coming up to the new season of "Better Call Saul," being shown back to back on Sundays. It BB holds up as well as when it was first on and is still as nerve-wracking.  "Homeland" has bee...

Pfft

Week off!

Don't leave me hangin'

My sister and I leave notes for each other in library books we have on hold at the Harold Washington branch of the Chicago Public Library.  I will leave her the recipe for ice, for example, or general greetings.  She knows to not leave me any recipe -- I have no patience for following a recipe -- but leaves amusing bon mots  or pleasantries. This is what she left most recently and does not advise what happens next.  It is a conundrum, a puzzlement, and a cliffhanger. And THEN what happened???

Happy 2020

Hail and farewell, 2019!  You have brought weirdness to the nation and to the world and it hasn't left.  You carried weirdness into my workplace and it did not leave -- there are more managers than workers and they don't see why this is a problem and that is all I am saying on the matter.  There were, however, some very good TV shows like "His Dark Materials," and "Watchmen."  The former has two more books to cover from the trilogy and the latter may be a one-off, the producer saying in an interview that he could not imagine where it would go from how it ended.  That makes two of us but if the producer is actually scribbling something out somewhere, I'm good with it.  If it never does happen, I'm good with it. I had blue hair!  For three months!  Cobalt blue hair that quickly went turquoise -- which clashed with a lot of my clothing -- and then part of it turned green but only a part.   I loved blue hair and if I could drink something ...

I am all for it

I went to the library this afternoon and on the way stopped at two stores that give me a birthday present every year during the month of my birthday.  One was a full-size mascara!  The other was samples of eye stuff and an apology, "I am sorry, but since it's later in the month, this is all we have left."  I assured her that was fine and thanked her and went on my way. The sidewalks were crammed and jammed.  It was about 55ยบ so people were out in full force and brought their kids, too.  Looking at them I realized that they're from the suburbs where all the same stores exist in suburban shopping malls.  The Banana Republic is no different from the one at Old Orchard and the Tiffany Store is just like the one at Oakbrook -- different layout, same merch.  The Macy's on State Street is bigger and so has more square footage for crap and has Xmas-themed windows but just from glancing at them a couple of weeks ago as I strolled by, I didn't think they were ...

They say it's my birthday.

On the 19th.  Happy birthday to me.
